18 Months

Wow how did this happen?! Landon is already a year and a half old. It feels like just yesterday that I was writing Landon's 6 month post lamenting about how he was already halfway to a year old. And now here we are a year later already. Monday night Kyle & I looked at each other and said, "He looks like such a little boy today." So apparently Landon decided to celebrate his 18 month birthday by becoming a boy instead of a toddler!

I waited till today to do his update because he had his 18 month doctor appt this afternoon. Turns out we have a really smart football player on our hands. He was 32.5 inches tall - 56th percentile. He weighed 27 lbs. 6 oz. - 70th percentile. And his head circumference was 49 cm - 80th percentile! He's wearing mostly 18 month sized clothes although on the warm days he's been in 24 month clothes because all his shorts and short sleeves are in 24 month size.
Landon is still the happiest little boy. From the minute he wakes up in the morning he's happy and smiling.
Doesn't his hair look reddish in this pic? Weird!
Landon still sleeps really well although not quite as long as he used to. He usually sleeps at night for right around 12 hours. I've started waking him up a lot of mornings by 9 or 9:30 if he isn't up already because he does better taking 2 naps a day instead of just 1 in the afternoon. So he typically takes two 2 hour naps each day.
When he's awake, Landon has TONS of energy. He runs around all over the house from activity to activity. I just love the way he runs too, because he almost bounces from foot to foot back and forth and he just looks so cute!
Most of Landon's favorite activities are still the same. He still loves to look at books, and he loves to build with his blocks (which he's getting incredible at). He also loves to throw balls and has a really good arm! He even gets some nice arch on it sometimes. He has also recently started playing with all of his cars and trucks actually as cars and not just throwing them around.
But of course, his favorite thing is to be outside.
Thankfully we've been having incredible weather recently so he's actually been able to spend a lot of time outside. He even helped out with some yard work on Sunday when Kyle had some of his guys over helping rake up the yard!

He's just Daddy's little buddy :)  He would gladly play with Daddy all day long. He just has to settle for me most of the time :)

Landon is still a great eater and will eat almost anything we put in front of him, as long as it's what we're having. We've started having to just feed him off of our plates instead of making him his own at dinner because even if it's the exact same thing he gets worried that it's not!
Landon's verbal skills are developing a little bit more. He says, Mama, Daddy, Yeah (favorite word), Wow, Whoa, All Done, Did It, Hi, and he's added a couple more animal sounds to Moo:
Yes I realize it's not quite "Woof Woof" for the doggie, but we'll take what we can get at this point.
He's also started doing baby sign language for "please" (puts his hand on his chest) whenever he wants something. Once he figured out that was the magic ticket to get what he wants, he walks around doing it all.the.time for everything. He doesn't seem to understand why we still tell him no sometimes when it's something he shouldn't have, so he'll very emphatically pound both hands on his chest thinking that will do the trick. Sorry, Landon.

Like any 18 month old, Landon is starting to get a little more mischievous as well. He knows all the things he's not supposed to do (pull the blinds, take the clothes out of his dresser drawers, touch the space heater, play with the Kleenex box...) so as soon as he thinks we're not looking he tries to do any number of those things. And as soon as he knows he's caught he throws whatever he's holding that he's not supposed to and either runs away or starts taking steps backwards with this manipulative little smile. He's so silly. And as happy as he is, he can be plenty dramatic throwing himself on the ground when he doesn't get what he wants.
Regardless of any temper tantrums or messes made, we obsessively love our firstborn. Having Layla hasn't made us love him any less, and nothing ever will!
Happy 18 months sweet Punkin'!
