First of all, don't miss my Fourth of July post. I know, 2 posts in one day!!
We've had all sorts of interesting food here in India! And mostly very delicious things. I thought I'd share a few pictures of some of my favorite things we've eaten so far.
The very first meal we had after arriving to India was Chicken Biryani, a famous Indian dish. It's really spicy and really good! Basically it's rice with spicy sauce and chicken (which they give you whole and you break down yourself, which slightly sicks me out bc I hate slimy chicken). The above picture is actually Kyle eating it later with some Indian friends at a restaurant - they ordered and family style plate, which had a huge mound of rice, four whole chickens around the edge, and everyone ate off the same plate. Every time we eat biryani, we eat it with our hands - Indians say that it tastes the best when it's cooked in a cast iron pot and eaten with your hands (I guess the salt from your sweat adds extra flavor? ha!).
The above is one of my favorite things I've had so far. The tortilla type thing is called naan and it's so delicious! It's simply used to dip in various sauces - this particular sauce is called Palak Paneer - "palak" means spinach and "paneer" is a type of cheese they use here (that's what those white chunks are). It's Indian, so naturally it's also spicy. It looks kind of gross, but it was great!
Indian food is a lot of dipping carbs into sauces - above is another example! Not sure what it's called, but it comes out like a big bubble that you pop first and then tear it up to dip and eat! Play with your food!
And another dipping item - this is called Dosa. It's kind of like the crispy edge parts of a waffle, and again you dip it into various sauces. There also is steamed dosa that is more the consistency of a pancake.
Here's part of our team out to lunch one day eating lots of dosas and naan!
At this restaurant at the end of the meal they bring out warm water with lemon in it to wash your hands in. Here's Maggie getting lemony fresh hands!
Here two of the guys ordered "skillets" at another restaurant, and they put Applebee's skillets to SHAME! They were huge piled with rice, vegetables and chicken (and actually sizzling when they were brought out.) Needless to say, they didn't finish them.
Look at all that steam!
And now, for my FAVORITE food I've eaten in India so far. Drumroll please....
The Nutty Buddy!! There's a restaurant that sells ice cream really close to our house (ice cream is one thing that India definitely knows how to do right!) It's basically like the frozen Drumstick ice cream treats in America, except you get to pick any flavor of ice cream to go in the middle, and then they dip it in chocolate shell and fresh nuts (I personally don't like nuts in desserts, so I got mine with just the chocolate, but the rest of the normal people who like nuts in their ice cream think they're great).
This time I got it with chocolate ice cream in the middle. It's so huge and so oozy that you can't even eat it like a traditional ice cream cone - plate and spoon needed. I could eat one every day - SO delicious!! Be jealous Dad!
So there's just a "tasting" of the foods we've had here. You can also get plenty of American type foods - Pizza Hut, Subway, KFC, McDonalds (but no beef, sad!) as well as Chinese and Thai food. But we've really enjoyed experiencing the Indian cuisine!

Holy cow, this looks amazing!
I LOVE indian food! I make it all the time. I could eat naan all day long! But I know it's not nearly as good as the one from the mother land. I'm drooling allover the place over here.
I've been so behind on blog reading. There's not enough time in the day!
I've been enjoying your India updates though! I know you aren't able to post about the work you're doing, but I hope everything is going really well. It sounds like you guys are having a great time! I'm glad I'm not there though...I'd never survive with all the spicy food!
has the spiciness bothered landon at all? 23 days and counting!
