Landon - 23 Months

Ready or not (definitely not) we only have one month left before Landon turns two. He's 23 months old today! It kind of makes me want to cry thinking about it. Then I looked through the Shutterfly photo book of Landon's first year that I made, and then I REALLY wanted to cry. Just look at that big kid in the picture up there! It's just so crazy.
If he is nothing else, Landon is a little exploding bundle of energy. He is on the go all.the.time. Getting him to pause to take pictures is still a challenge, although he does say "cheese" for pictures now. Unfortunately he frequently doesn't actually look at the camera while saying cheese, or he says it while whining that I'm trying pause his on-the-go-ness to take his picture.

Kind of defeats the purpose of saying "Cheese", Landon. The times I get the best "cheese"y smiles out of him is when I take the picture and immediately let him look at it and then take another one and let him look at it. He's still a vain child.

Landon is 100% boy. Most of his favorite activities right now include some form of running, climbing, jumping, falling (on purpose) and throwing things.

Needless to say, we're having to keep a much closer eye on him, and be much more careful about not leaving chairs left pulled out or objects out that he can stand on (which is difficult since he'll try to climb/stand on almost anything, including Layla's car seat (banished to the gated kitchen now) or any of his extremely unstable toys. I don't think a day goes by that Landon doesn't have some sort of bruise, scrape, or bump somewhere on his body. My sister and I have always claimed that our brother was the cause of all my mom's gray hairs, and now that I'm a mom to a busy boy, I am even more convinced that claim is true.
One of Landon's favorite phrases right now is "Ready, Set, GO!" Go could refer to any number of things - time for him to run to the other side of the room, time for us to throw the ball to him to catch, time for us to tickle him, pretty much time for anything fun. "Ready" is probably my favorite word he says right now because it's so stinkin' cute the way he says it. Despite the fact that he still doesn't say a whole lot of intelligible words on his own yet without being prompted to say words, he still has plenty to say. And apparently he's watched us on the phone a time or two.

You may be looking at those pictures and thinking to yourself, "My, it sure seems like Landon is thinning out a little bit!" And you would be right! I think between all his constant running around, growing taller, and not eating quite as voraciously, Landon is not looking as chubby as he used to be. Don't get me wrong, he's still solid weight when you pick him up, but he's slowly slimming down. When we took him to the doctor last week when he was sick they weighed him on the big people scale with all his clothes on and he was 29 lbs. At his 18 month appt in the baby scale totally naked he was 27 lbs. 6 oz, so he's really only gained a little over a pound in the past 5 months.
Landon is still a good (and independent) eater. Although recently he's on a kick where he has decided that forks and spoons slow down the eating process so he's boycotting utensils right now and opting for his fists. Not fingers, mind you, he takes an entire first full of food and stuffs it into his mouth. Which means I have to vacuum the circumference around his booster chair daily if we don't want to be walking on food. And vacuuming is my least favorite chore ever.

Thankfully, Landon will slow down every now and then and entertain himself with toys, especially new toys, like his Little People Noah's Ark set that he got for Easter or Valentine's Day or something but I just finally gave to him two days ago.

He also still seems to think that all of Layla's toys should actually be his.
There he is, sitting in her Bumbo seat and eyeing the toys on her jumperoo. Good thing she adores him and loves watching him all the time.

Landon still consistently sleeps for roughly 12 hours a night, but his napping is becoming not as consistent. I usually still try to put him down for two naps a day, which sometimes works out great, but a lot of times he won't ever fall asleep for his second nap so after playing in his crib for an hour he eventually gets mad and I let him out. I'm still not convinced I should officially transition him to just one nap a day though because he is a GROUCH in the evenings when he only takes one nap.

I sure love my cute boy and will relish this final month before I have a two year old!
