Last weekend we were in Kansas City for an event with students, but while we were there I got the bonus of celebrating a very exciting extra event.
My friend Rachel got engaged Saturday night!!
Rachel is one of my best friends from the past 6 years. Rachel was a freshman at K-State the same year that I was starting my first year on staff. She joined my freshmen Bible study that September, and we've been friends ever since!

How fun is this - Rachel came to my bridal shower her first semester of college when I was engaged to Kyle!
And she came to our wedding!
I discipled Rachel one-on-one her sophomore through her senior year of college, plus we spent three summers together at our summer projects, so we spent toooons of time together. I love this girl!

Pregnant with Landon!
Rachel moved to Kansas City to go to nursing school, and now she's an official nurse. We still get to see each other fairly often though since she's still so close.

Meeting Layla for the first time
A couple of weeks before the engagement, Josh (Rachel's FIANCE!) had told us his plan to propose, and asked me to take Rachel out to breakfast that morning along with the other two girls pictured above, Mandy & Emma, who were also in my D-group along with Rachel and live in KC now. He wanted the whole day to be special (isn't that sweet?). The four of us often meet for breakfast when I'm in town visiting Kyle's family, so it wasn't an abnormal thing to do.
That night Josh took Rachel to a really fancy restaurant on the Plaza and then took her to the art museum where they went on their first date and proposed to her there. Precious! Then he had planned a surprise engagement party at his brother's house for their families and he invited Kyle & me to also come. (Kyle wasn't able to leave our student event because he was running the sound system - sad!) Rachel's younger brother and sister were also in town attending our StuMo event, so her younger sister rode with me to Kyle's parents' house while I put Layla to bed and then we drove together over to the engagement party. Rachel was so surprised and it was soooooo precious!!

Telling the engagement story
After they shared their engagement story Josh's dad shared some devotional thoughts from Ecclesiastes 4 and then Rachel's dad led us in prayer for them. What a great way to kick off their life together, huh?
Then Josh's sister-in-law had prepared a great table of mini desserts and punch so we all ate and stood around and talked and took pictures and heard more of the story.

It was such a great time and I am way beyond excited for them to get married! They're getting married January 12 so Rachel has hit the ground running to get everything planned in time! She was so sweet and asked me to be one of her bridesmaids, which I'm honored to get to stand with her as she begins this new chapter of life. So I'm excited for bridal showers and other fun things over the next couple months!!
Love you Rachel!!! You're going to make a beautiful bride and an incredible wife. So excited for you :)

What a sweet guy to try and make the whole day special for her. I love the way he thought of all the details and I'm excited for you to be in the wedding. Being a bridesmaid is one of my favorite things ever, especially when I love the couple together. Congrats to your friend!
