Easter Means New Things

Easter is all about new - the new life that we can have through Christ.

And in our house, Landon's first Easter weekend also meant some other new things!

We got to stay here at home for the weekend instead of traveling, but my mom came up for the day on Friday/Saturday morning, and then Kyle's parents came over Saturday at lunch and stayed till after dinner, so we still got to see family!

Our first "new" thing happened Saturday evening when we bought & put together our new grill (our old one decided to die. A few weeks ago we decided to cook steaks & potatoes for the first time this spring only to realize after 10 minutes that the grill wasn't actually heating at all. Fail.). The assembly took much longer than anticipated, but it sure looked great when it was done! (and cooked some great steaks!)
Landon supervised to make sure Daddy & Papa put it together right
We used our new grill again on Sunday for "Easter Dinner" to grill chicken & vegetables. Yum!

And then in celebration of Easter, I decided to give Landon something new: Apple Juice.
Actually, it had absolutely nothing to do with celebrating Easter. I actually had wanted to put off apple juice for a long time & just teach Landon to drink water from a sippy cup, but it was a last resort. Ever since starting solid foods Landon has had trouble with having really really hard bowel movements (I know, probably TMI, but hey, that's what you get when you're reading a blog about a 7 month old.) I switched him to oatmeal instead of rice cereal, he's never had bananas or applesauce, he eats prunes and peaches and pears which are all supposed to help in this area, and still no improvement at all. And since I nurse him he never drinks bottles so I couldn't mix Karo syrup in with his bottle. So in an act of desperation after watching my poor boy struggle to poop everyday, I decided to break down and give him apple juice to try to help. It's really 1/3 juice and 2/3 water, so we didn't go crazy with the sugar, but Landon sure thinks it's good stuff.

New method of keeping Landon occupied : give him a sippy cup of apple juice. Hours of entertainment! (Which of course hours translates to 5 minutes in baby time)

(This video was actually from today, not yesterday)
The only problem is, Landon hasn't really figured out how to actually drink out of a sippy cup. He mostly just bites on it, which still allows a tiny bit of liquid to come out, but then the whole swallowing issue is tricky, so most of the apple juice actually wound up soaking his shirt and not helping his tummy. *sigh*

Good thing he's still so cute!

Oh no!! I'm sorry he's still having a rough time! (and when we're all parents, I don't think there's such thing as TMI...within reason, of course!)

I was going to be super impressed if he was handling the sippy like a champ...we gave Isabelle hers for the first time last week, but she really had no idea what to do with it.

I wish I had some ideas to help, but I really don't. Check with your pediatrician, and maybe google? Hang in there, Landon!!
